What is Handicap

Handicap is an aid given to a worse player when playing against a better one. However in golf it's also much more. The main point of the whole handicap system is to make the game fair for everyone. Golf is probably one of the only games in which a beginner can win a professional player, it wouldn't be possible in sports like tennis or running. The other nice thing about the handicap system is that you can compete against your self. Basically you can try to get your handicap down.

Handicap is shown with a standard number system. The numbers range from 54 downwards. Handicaps below 0 are also possible. The smaller the handicap number the better the player is. When a beginner gets a green card he/she automatically gets a handicap of 54.
